Issue with electrics in 2 rooms, lights not working, wiring?

We have had an ongoing issue in our living room with the main Ceiling light. We have a dimmer switch and when we used to use it, often to light would flicker along but we would play around with it and eventually it would work ok. However, it got worse and worse over a few months and now the light will not come at all.
Also, the same thing has happened in the dining area (it is open plan) and this light does not have a dimmer, just a simple up down switch. The light often will not come on but if you move the chandelier around with your hand it may come on occasionally. I’m guessing that it is a wiring issue.
I currently rent the house and am looking for a cheap deal on this as landlord doe not pay for this sort of maintenance unfortunately. Thanks
