Toilet waste pipe in wrong position?

I wish to replace a Twyford toilet fitted in 1986. It is close coupled and I suspect that modern replacements are now less deep and sit closer to the wall. The existing outlet to the sewer is set vertically in a concrete floor and appears to be a 'pottery' type sewer pipe about 14 cms external diameter protruding about 8 cms above floor level. It is about 26 cms from the wall at the furthest side. Having looked at many possible replacements my problem seems to be, if I have the specifications correctly, that this pipe is too far away for modern toilets that now sit closer to the wall. I am aware of flexible pan connectors but doubt that I could get one to fit. Any comments or suggestions much appreciated or am I just being stupid!
