Our garden has a large depression in where a tree & stump have been removed. I presume that one has to fill it with soil, but any advice would be much appreciated.
hi, sounds like the just need topping up with topsoil and graded to required level in prep for seed or turf. obviously seed is cheaper, turf is instant
You can fill in the depression with a type one aggregate this is great for a base it helps with drainage would make the ground hard standing before you finish off the top of the ground with soil .
Hi, yes if the area surrounding the depression is soil/lawn you can compact soil in to it to level it out, and then returf the whole area to blend it back in to the surrounding garden. Hope this helps. Chris, Green Dragon.
Youre right that one has to fill it with soil..how much obviously depends on size..but i would then just grass seed it afterwards..
I would fill the hole as much as18 inches from the surface with hardcore and hammer it down, then top up with top soil.

Filling and firming soil in the depression should be sufficient.
Just fill it with soil and level it out put grass seed down job done
Fresh soil or rotavat and level all the lawn and lay turf or grass seed for the cheaper option
