What type of tradesman should I look for to install plasterboard? Is this a job a plasterer would typically do or a builder?

Plasterer or builder experienced in dry lining, first fix carpentry. Important to have joists/fixings/bearings at 400mm centres to eliminate waste of plasterboard.

A plasterer knows how he likes the board fitted but labourers can normally take this on but would need to be checked so no screws are sticking out and no flappy bits of board

Plastering should be done by a plasterer including plaster board. As this is the primary suface this goes wrong you are not going to correct it by adding plaster. There are also many types of plaster board for different situations so you need to know the right properties of each.

Depends on finish. eg. if you want a tile finish then a tiler, decorated then a painter & plasterer... either way you should have a carpenter with all round trades.

All plasterers should be proficient at boarding. Personally, I never enjoyed it, although did loads, especially in Belgium where staple guns had replaced use of board nails. Carpenters I find are much more adept, using cordless drills for screwing in. Pity some of them put boards too close together or leave screws sticking out...Of course, some companies use boarders and dryliners do much more than most.
