regrouting tiles
had tiles put on but not been grouted properly gaps, cracks everywhere. Is it possible to put right without retiling again?

Yes its possible anything is.. Its pretty simple all that would need to be done would be for the grouted gapes to be racked open and re grouted nothing to sterssfull...

Best and quickest result is to remove tiles and re-tile and regrout correctly. Or rake out very carefully with special tool (Grout Remover) and regrout. This is a longer process and sometiles damage the corners or edeges of the tiles.

Could be 2 scenarios, 1 being just badly finished grout which could be rectified with rake & regrout. 2 being movement in tiles to badly installed tiles, in which case would posssibly need re tiled!

If the tiles are not moving,you need to remove about 3 mm from the grout line and regrout it with flexible grout

yes, the grout can be raked out using a number of tools available on the market. depending on the grout width, it is easier to use a multi tool with a dedicated diamond blade. But you have to be precise and careful so not to catch the tile edges when removing the grout. If you have electric heating under floor tiles, you need to be extremely vigilant when using any tool to remove the existing grout, as the cables can be easily damaged!
I would always recommend using a flexible grout with added anti bacterial properties. Once the grout has fully dried out i would also recommend sealing it with a dedicated water based sealer, as most cementitious grouts are not waterproof!!

It is, there are very cheap grouts on the market that shrink and crack and fall out. You must have the correct grout for the room.
When tiling you should always check to make sure the walls are solid, clean and sealed with tile primer not PVA and use the appropriate tile adhesive for the tile.

If its cracking then or the tiles moving, means not well set, or the surface behind moving. Even if remove old grout and do new, there is a chance if there is movements- it will crack again.
Can try with flexible grout. Maybe that will be enough. If not, then retiling all.

This depends on what type of grout was used. If the tiler has used the brand Mapei, then you have no chance of re-grouting, as that stuff has cement properties in it.
What you should do asap, is get the grout out. If you don't know the brand of grout they used, no worries, just put a Stanley knife to the grout and scrape, and if its only just be grouted there's still hope of re-grouting the whole job.
If they have used Mapei (which by the way is quality grout) the job would need re-tiling.
