Can you Unibons previously painted walls?
We have stripped the wallpaper off our bedroom wall, removed dado rails etc. I have Pollyfilla'd the worst holes and the walls are reasonably good condition. A decorator friend said I should 'Unibons' the walls and this may get rid of smaller marks in the walls? is this true? Is there a particular type of Unibond to use?

Hi, unibond is a brand of pva bonding glue and can be used for many things one of which is mixing with a bit of water and white emulsion paint, use this on your walls to create a seal and also to get a better covering when it come to applying your other coats of paint. As for getting rid of small marks... I dont think so. If its pen marks that just keep coming through the paint then I would touch those areas with a bit of oil based undercoat. As for small dinks in the wall i would use a bit of filler on each and everyone.

Personally I would sand down the walls properly to get rid of the old paper adhesive or wash well with sugar soap. Use easy fill from b&q not polly filla to fill holes cracks and any slight marks. Polly filla is a no no! Horrible stuff. Sand the wall smooth. Then paint with Matt emulsion mixed with 30% warter for the base coat then without warter for the second coat.

It is best to asess quality of walls if to many repairs plastering is better. Unibond you are referring to a company name with a lot of products on the market. If you don't want to plaster fill in as best as you can .sand walls. mix PVA with water apply on walls when dry paint walls in primer can still do small repairs sand and paint.hope this helps.

You must sand back and de-nibbin,polyfiller is only good for shallow holes a any deep holes need to be built out with a less flexabile filler any,if it was papperd every single bit must be off.And you must then asses what was under the wall paper,it could be silk,Matt,eggshell various types and how porus the walls are there are numerous types of primers from alkaline resistant primer to the zinnser brands i would have to see the wall otherwise it could be wrong information and leedec don't give out wrong information

Use PVA first and then best to do is skimming all the walls with Multifinish

Hi you can unibond the wall. we normally use a cheap pva watered down to give the wall a good Key surface. For little hole etc we use poly filla one fill.

Using Unibond on walls wont get rid of the smaller marks, its used to seal the walls prior to painting to provide a "key" on the walls so paint doesn't flake off in future.

Unibond is another term for PVA glue which watered down will provide a good surface for paint to stick to and wont sink into walls, meaning less paint and sweat used.

Pva will not hide any in perfection on the walls , best to give a coat of white emulsion and then 2nd fill if necessary

I wouldn't use any PVA at all.PVA is a plasterer's stuff.Cause paint peels after time.Use any primer-sealer water based or Zinsser Bin red tin.

I wouldn't use any sort of unibond on walls before painting as you want the paint to bond to wall not the unibond . It can cause bubbles. It is a common myth to use pva or unibond materials on walls before painting . just a light Sandpaper over all the walls to give it a key then miscoat . If there is any small indents then paint should cover if not then they are to big and need filling ... hope this helps

Unibond is more for sealing walls mainly. Filler gets rid of all blemishes.

I would not recommend Unibonding your walls as it will offer no benefits for the smaller marks in the walls.
My options would be to either fill any imperfections that you do not want.
Or to achieve a great looking finish to your walls, I would hang lining paper (1200g) and then paint over the lining paper after leaving it for 24 hours to dry.
Done right you will have lovely smooth walls.
