Best way to deal with wood chip wall paper
There is wood chip wall paper on the walls in all the bed rooms in this house which I bought recently. I'm looking to find out the best way to get a smooth walls. Will removing the wood chip wall paper damage the plaster board behind it or would it require any plastering before painting after removing it?

All depends I would remove wood chip give a good rub down seal and make good.If plaster is really bad re-skim.

No, you just have to "painting" with water two or three times and after you can take of the wall paper easy.

We will never know what it will damage the walls behind the paper until we take it off woodchip will normally be scored and then steamed

Wood chip wall paper is best off being stripped using a wall paper steam. If you are concerned of the walls being old and he plaster blowing make sure you don't leave the steamer on one are area to long as will cause the plaster to crack or come away. Depending on the walls and ceiling once the wall paper is off to plaster a average room is about the same price to have plastered with nice clean flat walls and ceiling. The only way to get smooth walls is to remove then either make good or skim/plaster(most likely to happen)

It is a real pain to remove, score it with a knife then steam off gently.

Hello, every house is different and so is every wall. if you get all the paper off without damaging the plaster at all I would say your a very gifted person. After stripping any type of wallpaper filling and a bit of prep work is always needed nothing a good painter cant sort out. Hope this helped.

You need to score the wood chip with a scraper then heat an electric steamer hold in position of where your removing the wallpaper for around 20 seconds and start to remove.

Removing the wallpaper should not damage the plasterboard and you should be able to apply paint direct.
It is possible to skim the plasterboard prior to painting this is based on personal preference.

Hi there, unfortunately it's going to be a difficult task. Wood chip is old school paper and il assume it's been on for atleast 20years. It will Be stuck like glue. A good sharp scraper and gloves. Wood chip can and will cut. It will more than likely damage some parts of the walls. It's pretty much unavoidable. Once all paper is removed the walls will need cleaned, filled then sanded for the smoothest finish. The walls can be skimmed or lined for a smoother finish then painted

Best way to get smooth walls..
I've stripped numerous rooms with wood chip wallpaper, using a steamer and a scraper taking extra care not to damage the plaster board.
As for re plastering once the wood chip has been removed; if care is taken and the plaster boards are in good condition then all should be well.

Yes remove all paper sand it all down wash it down then fill any parts that need filling then sand agen then but a primer coat on first then too top coats it will look bang on

There is a chance due to Woodchip being difficult to get off that you may damage plastered wall underneath. Depending on how you get it off it may just need filling and sanding ready for painting or you may need to skim the wall. Also, if the plaster underneath has blown it may just fall away from the brick and thus you will have no choice but to replaster
