Just moved & my kitchen ceiling is artex, would like it smooth. How much would this cost..& which way would be best, to cover or replace ceiling
There are to options depending on the thickness of artex.
1- plasterboard over then skim costing 300-400
2- scrap artex and 3 coat skim cost 200-300
The best will be to fitt New plasterbord And skimming. But you can cover the Artex with a coat bonding after you can use skimming.
yes you can but it does depend on how thick the aertex pattern is , sometimes its easier to take down and start again
If the celling is old and got movement its worth replacing or if the old artex is stippled can be scrapped back and plastered over.
You can plaster over artex it just depends how deep the artex is, worst case is that it might need boarding over first
I could not give a price without seeing the work and take measurements
Replace is the best
It is depends on condition of the ceiling. If it is good i suggest to skim it well and then paint. Cost depends on area and on ceiling.
You can plaster over artex as long as you got a good primer on the serface befor hand. And any stipple effect has been scraped down to a minimal depth so the pattern cannot be seen after works completed
you can put on an artex plaster but before you need to scrub it a bit artex then paint PVA as it dries you can lay the layer Multi-finish ,but of course a better solution is to put a new plasterboard on the ceiling or lower it on the
on a new construction
It is possible to plaster artexed ceilings, prices depends on the surface area and will be calculated by M2.
Hope this helps!!
You could either skim over the top if prepped right or overboard then skim.
Best of luck
As i dont know the area you are covering and shoudnt make a difference cost wise
as it will take almost the same ammount of plaster if not just a slight more.
unless the artex is quite deep & thick inplaces then apply a coat of bonding before skimming.
Apply PVA to Artex prior to plaster skim.
Yes you can plaster on top of the artex but you need to use some PVA first
it will depend on how thick the artex is on your kitchen ceiling and weather its still solid up there which meaning its not loose in any of the areas of the ceiling
Yes you can put it may need 3 coats depending on the thinkness of the artex. You would have to scrape your ceiling first taking of the big lumps then pva the ceiling ready for plaster
You have various options;
1) Remove ceiling and re board and skim
2) Over board ceiling and skim
3) Scrape Artex and PVA and Skim
Depends on which option will determine costs and time to complete
Both are good ways depending on patern it cost about £260+
To over board it will cost you about 380+
To remove may cost more as need get materials removal which can add up to £200+ and plamus a extra day for manual work
