Badly fitted bath
We had our bathroom done. When the guy did it, he tiled the entire room then fitted the bath. I have now been told this isn’t the right way to do it. The shower is over the bath and the bath now leaks into the kitchen below. Is there any easy way to fix this, without having to rip the whole bathroom out. We have tried all kinds of sealent, sealent strips etc but just lifts really easy and still leaks.

I would advise get a plumber in to take a look this sounds like it needs refitting

There are a couple of ways 1 lift the bath legs and cap off the bath to tiles with a plastic up stand or take the first layer of tiles off put a rubber trim and tiles bk on

The only way would be to remove the bath cut a channel the width of the bath and then refit sliding the bath into the channel.

Hi you really need to remove the bath and the lower tiles approx 500mm once removed them you will be able to do a rebuild

Hi there,
It sound like you need to find a leak or something is not a tight as it should be. Id like to have a look. As a plumber i couldnt give you 100% advice unless i access the pipe work my self. Check the shower valve in the wall

Hi. A quick and easy way to fix this is to use pvc quadrant. I would start by removing as much of the surface silicone as possible around the bath then fill the bath with water. Try and fill the gap with silicone so the silicone is slightly prowed then fit a quadrant all the way round the edge of the bath and the wall. Once that is done silicone a small bit at the top and bottom of the quadrant. Leave this for 24 hours for everything to set then remove tell water and use as normal. This is all dependant on if the gap is to large for the quadrant (shouldn't be if you buy a thick one) and the bath is secure in place. Hope that helps

We have to find where the water come, if come from side of the bath take of the silicon and put a silicon on the side of the bath, if the water come under need the bath check the wast pipe

Hi the bath should be fitted first and then tiled. You fit the bath to the walls silicone then tile and silicone again so you have a double seal !

I'm not sure fitting the bath over the tiles is the problem exactly - sounds like just a badly fitted bath. If it's leaking through to the kitchen he shouldn't be complaining about being asked to come back and fix the issue and if he doesn't tell the council and trading standards and take him to small claims - whatever the reason, water leaking through to the kitchen means a bad fitting job has been done.

Hi, It isn't a great situation for you. You can more then likely get around it with a quarter-round strip of UPVC trim and then a professionally applied silicon top and bottom. Probably take about 1.5hours for an experienced person to do, or longer if you are not experienced.
If you do a 'diy' quality silicon job, it may look a little messy so be careful!

Or, To replace the sealant around the bath you should fill the bath then scrape old sealant out then redo the sealant but apply it a touch thicker. Once dry, empty bath that should do the job just make sure the sealant has no gaps.

Sorry to hear this a cheaper option is to fit shower wall panels over the tiles around the bath as these would sit on the bath and seal up flush inc materials and Labour you would be looking at 450

i would recommend removing the tiles below the bath line and having the bath set back into the wall as it should be. Otherwise the only other option you really have is to buy something similar to a quadrant bead and seal that to the tiles and bath. It will stop the water sitting in a channel

You could remove bath which should be quite easy and angle grind tiles so that bath fits in under the tile as it should do and then silicon, etc.

It depends where the leak is coming from. If it's coming from the waste, then waste have to be resealed or changed. If the leak is coming from the cavity between the bath and wall, then you can do following:
- purchase the Byretech Bath Seal Ultra (it's the plastic trim that goes around the bath and will seal all the space where bath is attaching to the walls)

Not the best way round but it was done like this, so the gap left around the bath on either two or three walls should be small seal with a quality sealant, make sure dry and fill bath with water to weight the bath down. Or seek professional help.

It is not increct way of doing this. its a exspecive way of doing it thats why they dont do it.
You have multible choices.
resilacone (remove exsisting silacone fill bath with water then resilacone with dow. leave it to go off 24 hours. i have never had this fail if the bath is level.
(please note all silacone should be renewed every 12 months)
option 2,
remove bath. angle grinder a slot for the bath to slip in wall and remove them tiles and silacone again but wont make a diffrence.
There has to be a reason why its leaking cannot be brand new silacone if done right.
