New Circuit Board fitted but cooker not working after..!

I had a new circuit board fitted by the landlords on Friday and since then the cooker will not work. When you switch on at the hob it trips out everything. The oven light comes on though? I have called the Landlord and the electricians who are saying my cooker may be at fault?? Its 2 years old and was used for lunch before he did any works!

Not the cooker that is faulty ,if it trips at the board then it's an 'earth to neutral 'fault meaning something wrong with either neutral or earth circuits.

If he changed box could be cooler as he has change to rcd or it could be connected on the wrong g side if it's a split box insulation resistance test will tell if circuit ok or pat test cooker to see if its faulty

sounds like they may have made the wrong connections . and did not test .before letting you use it. . call them back to check this .also ask to see the sign off ticket . if it was all signed off as completed and tested .then if you did have a fault be it within the fused board or the appliance it should have come to light.

Hello ,this comes up alot after a new fuseboard has been fitted as they are very sensitive to picking up a fault , if the oven and grill work fine and its just a certain ring that trips the rcd the ring is definitely faulty.

This is difficult to say for certain what the problem is. The oven itself could be at fault, and have a thing could earth leakage on it. This is picked up by the RCD as a fault and trips (annoying I know, but that same detection of the RCD prevents fires on other faults). However it may also be the cable supplying the oven and the breaker size (trip switch) in the consumer unit. You should have received, or the landlord, a test certificate and I would check the insulation resistance results on there to make sure the cable is ok. Hope this helps.

More then likely when you had a consumer unit upgrade they changed the protection devices from old fuses to RCD protection. With some older hobs they will trip the RCD and this will cause everything that the RCD controls to lose power. I would suggest that a qualified electrician look at the circuit.

Sounds like either a wire has been placed in the wrong place in fuse board if it worked correctly before he replaced the board

Hi,

It could be your cooker but unlikely. I’m
Guessing you had a old consumer unit without a RCD and that has now been changed for a new consumer unit with RCD protection. So the fault could of alway been there but your old consumer unit wasn’t ably to identify the fault.

But this could also be down to a number of different thing.

I hope this has helped

Thanks

Could be loose connections, not earthed properly, fault RCB, not on own independent circuit due to power produced. Testing is required to find and correct fault.

Yes your cooker maybe faulty. The element(s) of your cooker hob may have gone bad. And now that your fuse box has just been upgraded certainly to an RCD protected type, it's now being able to detect the earth fault from your cooker every time you turn it on it definitely going to trip it off.

Electricians should have tested before they left after replacing a consumer unit

The circuit needs an insulation resistance test. When you say you had a new circuit board fitted I think you mean that you had a new consumer unit / fusebox fitted. The Electrician who carried out the work should Have made certain that everything was working and also the Electrician that carried out the work will be registered with either the NICEIC or ELECSA or NAPIT or STROMA
