Paint over mould?
Can I just paint straight over a moldy bathroom ceiling. Does it need to be prepped in some way? Thank!

No don't paint over straight away as it will come straight back through, apply a stain blocker first then paint

This is a no no! It must be washed away/sugar soap/tiny bit if bleach or there are products available that you can paint straight over that will kill it off. It then needs to be blocked using a shellac, or oil based blocking paint, then it can be brought to decorating.

Your best bet would be to wash it down with bleach, put anti mould paint then paint over that. Moving forward look at your ventilation in the bathroom.

Hi, you should not paint directly over a mouldy bathroom ceiling. The mould has resulted due to poor ventilation and warmth when in use. Best thing to do is to sugar soap the ceiling to remove as much of the mould as possible. Use a strong solution of sugar soap and rinse well. Allow to dry completely with a window open. If the mould had been removed completely, I would recommend the use of a good quality mould resistant bathroom ceiling emulsion with at least 2 coats. If there was still evidence of mould then further cleaning and the use of a sealer prior to painting should be used.

Yes you need to clean of mould first then stain block or cheaper option gloss over mould patches then paint.

All mold must be treated accordingly using a mold and mildew wash/cleaner and a damp cloth, wipe down all traces of black mold and then either given a coat of anti fungal paint to prevent mold from re appearing or oil based or stain block undercoat to cover stains and prevent them bleeding through top coat

You can not paint over mould
You can use white undercoat oil based first to cover mould and after 5 hours minimum apply emulsion if the undercoat is dry

Short answer is no the mould would just come back through, use some mould and anti fungal solution to remove the mould and allow it to dry naturally, then if you have poor ventilation in the bathroom I would recommend using permawhite paint on the ceiling, this will guarantee that no mould will come back through for 8 years, mould usually comes when relative humidity reaches 70%.

Mould will form in bathrooms where the moist air condenses onto a cooler surface and over a period of time goes black and you have mould grow on ceilings and walls and silicone joints.It can be prevented by having mechanical ventilation installed and where it has formed on a ceiling it should be cleaned as its toxic prior to decorating

Hi, the answer is no, first we have to clean with mould spray that one is special for mould or clean properly and use sand paper rub and try to clear yellow mouldy mark then paint will be good and used bathroom paint .

Hi the mould will be an issue if not treated correctly you can buy a tin of mould resistant underbase coat before painting with your top coat to sort this problem

I’d recommend scraping any bits of then washing with fungicidal wash then when it’s dry coat with a stain block or oil based under coat just over all the mold then re paint with two coats of your finish paint
