Roller marks on ceiling?

I have tried different roller heads for emulsion, but find on ceilings, if you roll in all directions, rather than straight, or across, when dry your left with Roller marks, which look shocking once dried, any ideas ?

Always paint in one direction and as the roller unloads the paint it leaves thinner patches that show , so when you reload the roller and start where you finished , lightly go back over the last bit painted to blend in the thinner coat of paint and when your finished there will be no lines

Use a high quality paint like tikkurrila anti reflex or superwhite, medium pile Purdy white dove roller add floetrol paint conditioner to emulsion so that the paint drys very slowly thus eliminating roller mark, don't press to hard on roller and don’t run the roller dry and roll in one direction with 50% overlap

I think what ur referring to are called tram lines, the best way I find to solve this is to spread the paint out in a w shape be sure to lay thick edges off by rollering outwards lightly, if this is a freshly plastered ceiling the paint will dry really quick so will need to keep moving and try keep a wet edge, hope this helps

Hi you need to prepare your wall before painting ( sanding down any previous roller marks) you need to use a good quality roller and when you start rolling make sure you spread the pain on w shape and roller should go nice and easy don't press to much on it , make sure you spread the paint equally and only in 1 direction. Hope this will help you

you have to paint on the diagonal from wall to wall, not towards the window where the sun shines!

It could be the paint you've used, not necessarily you or the roller?

yes try long pile roller, i have noticed than long pile rollers leaves no marks whichever type of paint you are using, this i different from short pile roller because the edge of the roller always leaves marks, nomatter how much you lay off

In my experience I have used different rollers but it depends on your hand,i.e works very well for me.but there are special rollers for ceiling. Applying the paint would be a back and for motion.

Work away from the light ( start at the window )
Work your roller in the same direction face on with the window.
Over lap you paint strokes by at least 30%.
Ceilings dry quick, if your paint is thick just water it down by 10%, this will ensure your dry time to take longer so the ceiling dries as one.
Dont use any vinyl based paints.
If your in kitchen or bathroom use Eggshell.
Prep the surfaces well.
Remember, the decoration is the fastest non time consuming part of the job. Put every effort into getting that surface as perfect as you possibly can.

Invest in a good short/ mid pile roller head and a more expensive good brand matt emulsion that won't flash or grin. Lay it on well and don't over roll it.

An even load on your roller preferably deep pile in uniform width way strokes with out stopping or back rolling. Also apply with excess pressure and complete 2 coats with any filling and sanding between coats as required
