Do I need Skirting Boards? Is wall plaster durable enough if I am mopping the floor everyday and skimming the side of the wall?

Definitely a no no you must have skirting boards or tile upstand. Walls can not constantly get wet or knocked this would deteriorate very quickly.

No you need some kind of protection like tiles, skirting boards, etc. otherwise plaster will soak up water and eventually need replacing

You could plaster down to the floor as long as you paint with a silk paint to protect the wall but in my opinion I would put skirting or a tile upstand in wet areas

After a while it may start showing signs of wear, there maybe other options other than skirting but would need to see it first.

Hi. Yes, you do need skirting boards.the plaster should be about an inch from the floor, to prevent rising damp. If it's plastered to the floor, there's a good chance it could cause rising damp. By mopping the floor, and brushing the side of plaster. Eventually it will damage it. Hope this helps. Shane

plaster will draw moisture off the floor upwards and get damp. You leave an inch gap off the floor and put skirting boards on.

First of all I would never skim the wall right to the bottom as it can help rising damp. I would always leave a small gap then either skirting board it or put a floor down that rolls up the wall.

You need skirting board for two reason the main reason it has a gap behind know as a airflow this dry your wall and help damp to be removed. Second and modern plastering is a sponge effect and hold the water and after you see earth salt and mould on your wall you will need this remove and done again so go for skirting board
