This is part of our outdoor decoration speciality.
Preparation is the key to lasting outdoor wood quality.
We would make sure the wood is fit for purpose and prepare it for a good quality branded coating of weatherproofing.

2 even coats of a top-quality coating would normally be perfect for the job.

i would suggest a weathershield primer and finish paint. preparation is important if wood is flaking sand dow all flakes and wipe the wood with a damp cloth to remove any dirt so that paint can hold u can also use sugar soap to clean the wood before undercoating. prime the wood first and when its dry apply one or two coats of finish paint i suggest oil based primer and oil based finishing paint they tend to be more durable and weather resistant, this will protect your wood from any harsh exterior conditions snow rain etc

There are plenty of exterior wood paints or stains on the market in local DIY stores. You get what you pay for generally.
