Use of easi fill
Can easi fill gypsum be used directly onto plasterboard instead of a proper skim coat?
My builder has ‘dot and dabbed’ plasterboard onto my brick wall, and instead of skimming it, has used easi fill with the intention of sanding it down as a finished result before painting
Will this be as strong as a proper skim? Will it crack?
It is about 1.5m x 2m in size

This can be used as a alternative to skimming and if applied properly can result in a good finish

So this is common practice on a lot of building sites these days. It’s known as taping and jointing. There’s nothing wrong with it and when done right leaves just as good a finish as anything else. However I must admit I prefer a skim finish. For me it just gives it that extra layer of protection if for instance you decide to wallpaper and not paint.

Easi fill is used for the plaster board Tape and join method.Easi fill is ideal for decorating, either small or large areas. The integrity of the product is not affected when used either thick or thin. Use a vinyl based paint as your first coat, this ensures the Easi fil will not flash through.

It is fine to use as its purpose is a joint filler which is used for dry lining if used correctly and taped should not crack

As you can imagine it won't be as strong without the layer of skim, it's just quicker and cheaper. It won't crack. It's a common finish on new builds these days.

Using easifill is fine on new plasterboard works as long as a paper tape or fiberglass tape is used on the joints. Three coats of easi fill should be used each coat applied after the previous coat has set.Personally i think skimming is a better job

Easifil for small area is like polyfiller but nothing can replace the strength off a pure two coat skim

That's a noo way, if you dot dabbed you must skim leave to dry them paint easyfill is only to be used as a filler

In time will flake and not as good as finish as skim take a look at my plastering my finish leaves prestine walls with a glass like shine any issues e mail me more than happy to question other builders reps stay firm demand a skim otherwise you need me to the rescue

Easi fill over scrimmed joints on the board is fine as it is called tape and join but needs up to three coats and sanding a skim finish is always better and stronger

No you should you never use easi fill plaster to do any plastering walls greater than half a metre, it's only used for small hair line cracks or tiny holes.

Plasterboard is a finish product in itself so your builder has done the correct method, aslong as he has used 2 coats minimum and is sanded properly. It won't crack as like i say aslong as the jointing has been done properly. Hope this helps
