Cost for boiler fix?

Had a smell of gas coming from the extractor fan whenever I turned on the hot water/gas oven. Only lasted a few seconds or so before it went away, but called an emergency guy out just incase. Saw us on the same day, turned off the gas and said 'valve problem, call someone out and they'll change it over'. Fast forward to today and we called someone out and was given a quote of £739.35 = to supply and fix - Pump aav, Gas valve Electrodes Thermistor and 3 hours of labour This seems insane to me, and they're asking for the money up front. They're a really big company, so I'm not worried about them disappearing, just concerned we're being conned.

It sounds like you are getting the smell of unburnt gas from the flu outside coming back into the property via the extractor grille. I would be checking the distance between flu and extract grille. Also I would be checking supply gas pressure and ignition. When was the boiler last service d

Hi There
I have been working on boilers for more than 20 years and don’t ever replace that amount of parts. If the boiler was to cost that much to fix I would be advising you on a new boiler with 10 years warranty. If you would like a second opinion please let me know I would be more than happy to come and see you
Kind regards
