Is the same size of loft tank required when replacing it?

I need to replace the cold water tank in my loft as it has a small leak. Do I need to replace it with the similar size. I no longer have a bath installed (shower only) and my heating is from a hot water tank supplied by a back boiler.

No!
The amount of water that goes into your tank is governed by the ballcock.

Usually the cold water tank would be sized for your house so that it does not run out when using the outlets.
