How to remove limescale build up in toilet

We have a relatively new back-to-the-wall type "floating" toilet and live in a hard water area. I've noticed a limescale patch building up around the rim. In addition, the toilet is beginning to drip occasionally which I suppose is due to limescale building up and causing it not to close "flush". What would you recommend in order remove the limescale and how could I prevent it building up the the future. Is there a product I can add to the tank?

Prevention is a filter, just after the stop tap. Have you tried filling the pan with cola for 24 hours? That's what old timer plumbers recommended
