Tap gland sheared off

Got a call from rental agents to say a tap gland in the bathroom washbasin had sheared off and the bill for the repairs was £370 (water overflowed into the kitchen underneath the bathroom). My view is that it would have taken excessive force by the tenants to completely shear off a tap gland but I'd just like to know how often if ever this happens and the likely cause. Many thanks

The gland it self could occur over time because of wear and tear. It should never cost that much. But it all depends which company you got in touch with. Its actually a easy fix. I hope that helps.
