Skimming over plaster - one coat?

Hello all, I have just removed the old paint off the living room walls and gone back to the plaster. The plaster is fine, but has lost of digs and scratches on it from me getting then old paint off, which I know will be so obvious to see when painted, so I was going to skim it. As I am going over a good wall already, will I get away with one coat? I'd appreciate your advice here guys. Thanks.
