Decorators caulk cracking

Hello, yesterday I caulked my coving with Soudal acrylic caulk, went to bed, and this morning I wake up to find cracks and splits along the beads; I haven't painted at all yet and there have been no crazy temperature changes in the room. I can't work out why this has happened. Thanks.

Hi Handy Hands here..
Caulking coving is usually wet wiped to remove the excess to give a clean finish look.
If too much is removed in the wiping process it will result in a very thin bead that will readily crack and split. ... If the caulk is put on with too small of a bead it is more susceptible to cracking and splitting.

hope this helps.

Sometimes it’s down to heat (dried to quick) or if you’ve had a total refurb it can make to walls moves and make it crack but it is mainly down to the caulk you use I recommend polyfiller decorators caulk

Personally I would not use this product.
As a trained decorator I would open up the crack to give more room and get rid of loose bits.
Mix up some good old fashioned polycell and apply with a filler knife. Use a wet sponge to clear away excess and make it neat.

Once dry, next day usually you can lightly sand with a fine grain sandpaper. Then paint over.

I have seen in new builds where people paint over the crack and just use a silicone over that but you need to use something you can paint over.

Cracks will appear it’s a natural thing but If done correctly will look great.
Using a mixed poly filler you can fix broken corners, give a room a proper corner and edges. Can’t do that with a made substance in a tube really.
These were invented to save time on big jobs. Filling can be a big job sometimes.

It looks like you have not filled the gaps properly and the caulk has sunk, reapply with decorators caulk over fill then spray water over the gap and use a clean caulk tool to remove the excess

It could be any of the following reasons. Either the coving hasnt been stuck in properly. Any movement would disturb the caulk. Coving needs to be put in with white coving plaster and drywall screws. Or you caulked onto unpainted rough surface. And i dont recommend Soudal brand. I stick with Geocel red tubes. Geocel caulk doesnt shrink, it dries fast and doesnt change color.
