Do handymen typically do flatpack pick up from IKEA?

It is reasonable to ask a handyman to pick up flat pack furniture from IKEA. We are about 30 miles from the nearest shop. Would this be something most handymen would be willing to undertake or would it be better to arrange the delivery through IKEA. (Picking it up myself is not an option.)

It depends on the handy man but to be fair if you have order it from IKEA yourself then you should have it at your property ready as your handy man would be local to yourself that would be a 60 mile trip before even starting and you might not like the cost of him having to do what might seem a simple pick up it’s his time and fuel also wear and tear he will charge you if he accepts in fetching it

Hi, I think that would be better if you arrange a delivery through IKEA and then call an handyman to fix them, but you can always ask the person if he is willing to collect them at a price obviously, because in the end you will be using his time and petrol for the service.

Some handyman services will collect goods for you as a man with a van service. For most it will depend on what has to be collected, where you are and how long it will take them taking into account their own vehicle suitability. Obviously they would charge you for the time to do the collection and fuel if its a longer distance.

It all depends on the tradesman. If they live local to the store then they can possibly pick this up on your behalf. However, they will charge you extra for this as it’s an extra service & extra time and expense. If you have it delivered instead, this will be cost effective for yourself.

A handyman will undertake any tasks they feel worthwhile they will not be expected to for just assembly cost alone and would likely charge a fee for the collection. Hope this helps

If the handyman would be building the flatpack and would be willing to pickup I don't see why not, but you would assume the quote for the entire job would include his time and fuel for the pickup taken into account and it may or may not be at a higher total cost than the ikea delivery, best to ask for a quote with and without pickup and weigh it up.

Hi there,

you can arrange for a handyman to pick up flatpack furniture from IKEA (providing you give them the order reference number etc). I have been asked to do this before. The handyman may charge you a little extra for collecting the item before assembling, but it all depends on who the handyman is.

Its not out of the ordinary for a handyman to be asked to collect the order before assembling it.

Hope this helps.

yes the usual cost for this sort of thing is 30-40 pounds to cover cost of fuel
the disadvantage of having ikea deliver is they only deliver at certain times of the day handymen would not typically be constricted to time scales for pickup and delivery i myself am fully flexible

Hello
Yes that could be possible, however what are the sizes & dimensions of the item/items in question please?
If it's a large item/order both in size & weight, this could restrict the 1 x man with a van scenario, in which case its probably best to arrange delivery through IKEA.
I hope this helps.

On occasions yes. Some may choose to add pick up and delivery requests to increase the workload for the day. So your answer is yes most Handyman will offer this service if they have a van
