Roofing felt after chimney rebuild

I had a tradesman rebuild my chimney up from under the roof.He had to cut the roof felt to do this.Should he have attached the felt to the chimney so if the rain ever gets through the roof tiles in the future it won’t rain in around the chimney?

The felt is not normally attached to the chimney. felt is an under layer with batten and tiles on top of this, then a flashing(usually lead) is then dressed onto the tiles and cut into the mortar on the chimney to provide a water tight joint.

The trades man should have installed a led flashing around the chimney then when roof tiles go back on it will fold down on top stopping any water from getting in.

Putting felt on the chimney wouldn't really do much to be honest. We use lead around the chimney, chiselling into the mortar slightly to be able to get lead inside and then over the roof tiles/slates that was there is no chance of rain getting in via the chimney. I hope this has helped.

If he done the lead outside properly then you don't need to bother about the felt as water cannot go through the lead.
