Handrail

Hi. I have a pig ear handrail mounted to the wall that is coming away from wall. I am unsure how it was originally mounted on wall. Any idea how I could repair this or would I have to replace whole thing ?

You can pre-bore new holes on the handrail with an SDS drill, wall plugs, hammer, and screws with a Impact Driver. Then fill the areas which was previously used, sand, and paint over the area.

THEY ARE HONESTLY A RIGH PIGS EAR.... SORRY FOR THE AWFUL HUMOUR BUT ITS TRUE. I would remove completely clean up then glue (CT1 is best) back in place then counter sink screws and fix with wall plugs. you can fill counter sunk holes with timber dowls or two-part wood filler.

I hope this helps sorry about caps got baby on my lap......

You would have to find where the screw is Buried in the timber. if you can find the wood filler spot you could tighten it up after after you have exposed the screw if damages are present in the fixing join you will need to either repair or replace

This sounds like the fixings are starting to give up, it can be repaired by putting new fixings in but would be better to remove, clean and put back, a decent handyman or carpenter/joiner can do this with relative ease, or you could do it yourself if you’re confident to do so

Without seeing photographs, it is difficult to assess the situation but most pig ear handrails we fit are a combination of grab adhesives and wall anchor fixings woth screws through the rail and concealed with either wooden plugs for wood finished rails or painted finished rails with plugs to cover screw holes and then painted.
You may be able to fix this by cutting through any existing fixings and resecuring and refinishing or if not too severe an issue, may be able to secure with a through bolt into stud's/ blockwork...it depends on what sustrate the hand rail is mounted to.
I hope this helps?
Kind regards
