Hi, cracks in the tiles can be a few things.
they have not been stuck correctly and movement from the change of temperatures is causing them to crack ( take something light and tap on the tiles see if they sound hollow.
do you know what surface he was tiling on when work was being carried out? are you sure he prepared the area correcrly?
lastly, what quality of tiles are they? its rare but does happen poor quality tiles tend to have a abundance of issues arising with them.
If its cosmetic and still solid you probably could get away with it, if your startimg to see mortar chipping away from the joints its advisable to get it repointed
They are typically black, yellow would indicate a trunking for gas. is more than likely they was out of stock or its what he had left, it still will do the job just may cause some confusion for anyone who is excavating the gsrden in the future
It would be more beneficial to tile everything first, gives the jobs a better finish as there wont be check outs around the shower, etc. fitting the boiler however isnt usually tiled in, easier for pipe work to be fitted, boxing in would look better, as that can be tiled, or decorative mdf.
