History:

I have been a fully qualified electrician for 3 years now and have recently decided to take my part time company full time. I am well versed in all aspects of domestic electrical work and even have experience in commercial work as well. Over lockdown I took the time to broaden my knowledge by doing as many courses as possible such as electrical testing and EV charging courses.

If the old consumer unit does not have rcd protection then yes, i would highly recommend having a new one installed. any new consumer unit being installed would have to be metal to comply with the newest regulations.
I hate to give a general price on this topic as it differs from every job and can range from 100 to a few hundred. this is due to the fact that steel wire armour cable must be taken from the consumer unit and adequately buried or clipped properly all the way to the shed. this must then be terminated properly and the socket and light must be wired properly using a containment method suited to the shed.
I would recommend changing this as soon as possible. if a fault was to take place in the shower itself perhaps due to a loose connection or faulty wiring then there would be no way to isolate the shower quickly and safely.
I would recommend to get an electrician to take the light and pull cord down and completely dry the cables there. it would then be important to make sure both the fitting and pull cord where completely dry before putting them up again and maybe changing them for new ones if necessary.
In my opinion the fuse board would need changed as when changing electrics we need to comply with the current regulations which state that all cables either buried or in a bathroom need rcd protection. one way that you may be able to get round this is to split the tales and install a smaller consumer unit sometimes known as a garage unit, just for the bathroom circuits
