Pull Cord Light Switch Question

Pull Cord Light Switches.... Can any fitters with fitting experience please tell me if someone is playing a cruel joke on me?? I have a downstairs bathroom. It has a pull cord light switch. Up until yesterday evening, ie Thursday 10th September 2020 it had a clear tactile click when pulled, so you could feel the clicking point when you pulled it and it would easily "click" on pulling, which switched the light on or off. You could feel the point but it went through that point easily. Well.. , yesterday evening I tried the light and it isn't working and doesn't feel the same. Best way to describe it is imagine pulling on a door which has a return to closed spring on it and still achieve opening it...the light switch doesn't click turn on and this 'feel something' distance, feels like pulling against easy friction over a small distance.. Before there didn't seem to be any of this small distance minor peddling a dynamo cycle effect, it just either clicked on or clicked off. Once you feel the light switch do it, it then just reaches block or 'stop' like you've pulled a line which was on the floor attached to a wall as far as it can go and can see it fully extended and know you can't pull further. I feel its like pulling a line and it's at full extent, ie it feels as if its "as if pulling aline to max extent you can see is at its maximum taut against ceiling. Light switch just seems to feel totally different whilst now not working. Is this in any way a normal defect for an old style pull cord light switch. There didn't used to feel any of this peddling a dynamo cycle very small distance to reach a total stopped point like l'm then just softly tugging as if its a line on the ceiling, there used to be no dynamo tactile minor travel distance at all, it just clicked the light on or it clicked it off. (Look I am sorry it's difficult to describe i know what I had and I know what I have now, and yes the big difference is also the light switch is also not working now .. Incidentally this tactile minor travel(dynamo peddling)distance(that it didn't used to have), it doesn't feel uneven like its about to snap or is irregular, it feels like it's part of intended workings and will do it again and again and again. The period(and distance) it does it is very, very small by the way but you still feel it doing it whereas before the light switch just clicked on or clicked off with a loud almost muffled popping sound. This is not a spoof post. My pull cord downstairs bathroom light has stopped working-I would have expected a click not light if it was to stop working and was the light bulb,or it was just to stop working, its not doing that , there may be a natural or commonly known to fitters defect occuring but it seems like the cord and internal gubbins itself under the circular casing(wheel flat against ceiling shape) directly against the ceiling has been messed with. And no it's not a complicated arrangement it's just a vertical cord into a circular protrusion attached to the ceiling.
