Electric shower fault

Our electric shower has stopped working. The switch on the outside of our bathroom has been temperamental for the past few days in terms of sometimes we would have to really push the switch in for the shower to work, now it doesn't work at all. I'm not sure if we need a new shower or if the existing one can be fixed but don't want to be charged a ridiculous amount for someone to check it and then have to come back to install a new one for us and be charged again.
