Emergency call out

Our plumber came to look at our boiler as we had no hot water. There was an air block in the boiler and he released the air. He's charging ?135 for an emergency call out despite not notifying me prior to visiting that it would be that much. He was here for about 30 mins, perhaps a little more. Should he have told me prior to visiting?

He should have informed you, 70 -100 pounds would be justified

You called a plumber out as you had no hot water. He resolved the problem and got your hot water working. The fact it only took 30 minutes indicates he has knowledge of the system and that is what you are paying for. His knowledge not his time.

Hope this helps :)

We always notify if a call out is required. It is sometimes hard to give a price for labour before looking at a boiler to identify the issue and discuss with you at that time.

Customer must be notified of any surcharge before arrival. If you have not been pre informed about call out charges, then you can challenge that.

Yes all cost should be explained over the phone, and you then have the option of going into a verbal agreement when the trademan arrives.

No the error is on your part not asking him his charges. Once you agreed for him to complete work he can technically charge you anything
