Door hinge coming out

We have a brand new kitchen. After just a few months. 2 soft close hinges on separate doors have come out, as in, the screws attaching it to the door have pulled out of the wood completely. Why has this happened? Is it a fault? We rarely open the doors and are definitely not heavy handed.

Hi I'm Phil from Gemini Building Services.

There is a couple of reasons why this is happening. The first reason is that the wrong screws have been used or the fitter has had to take the hinges of and refit, once the screws for hinges have been applied once they are not designed to be took out again as the screws are designed larger than the hole on the unit to create a thread, if they are removed after first installment the hole es the same size as the screw. The other reason is a incorrect door installation, ie the door may be binding against the carcass. My advice is speak to the fitter to correct.

Your hinges are too deep routed/ chiselled in so when door is closing side of the door comes in contact with door frame and because there is no gap it pushes it away pulling hinge screws out

The answer is simple… bad material used to build the kitchen itself. That doesn’t mean the kitchen is cheap!!!
I can fix your door hinges for 25£ each

Hi there,

Most probably it's a manufacturing fault. Most likely you spend a fortune to order & to install it. Someone from the 2 options above has to come and get this problem sorted ASAP as it's frustrating.
I wouldn't mind to come and get it done if I was one of them. This is how you keep your clients happy.

Kind regards,

Nico

This was probably down to an installation issue possibly the screws were over rotated degrading the MDF or timber it is fixed too. Possibly they did a pilot hole too big for the fixing meaning the screw won’t hold much weight. I would suggest the door would need to be removed a small timber plug added and reinstate the hinge in place with a new pilot hole.

there could be a few reasona why whis happening one could be the screws aren’t long enough to fix the hinge to the door or the door hasn’t been correctly fitted meaning the door is binding causing more tension on one part of the hinge

If you’ve already tried to get a wider screw to fix the hinge in place. You can get a hinge repair plate that screw on to the carcass and door which makes it strong enough for the door to be fitted.

Hi, it is hard to say without a picture. It’s either manufacturing fault or installation fault (in case kitchen purchased “flat pack”)

Sounds like the fitter has either drilled a too large pilot hole or too thin or short screws or spun the screws when doing them up, it’s an easy fix but I would contact the fitter to make them sort there work
