New Boiler & Radiators. Do I need to replace the pipework?

Hi. I am looking at getting a new boiler and all new replacement radiators. I believe the boiler is 20 years old and the radiators a mix of older and slightly newer. I have 2 quotes, one is £1300 more expensive and includes all the pipework in the house being replaced. Would I need to replace the pipework/is it recommended with a new system? Thanks

Hi, you don't need to replace the pipework but the longer it's left the higher the potential of getting a leak.

Yes I would advise replacing all the pipe work as you are spending the money on having a new boiler installed. It is not absolutely necessary but certainly advisable.

Copper pipes expected life span is around 70 to 80 years. So its no need for replacement, once system is installed use chemical cleaner and inhibitor to clean the system and protect. Unless if you getting great deal and you have a spare cach on replacing appliances and the pipe work which is 20 years old, then why not.

of course, once the boiler and radiators are changed, the pipes must also be changed

That depends on the pipe work. 20yrs it would be recommended but not needed as it is unlikely to be lead. But depends on the materials and how often it was cleaned/ flushed.

But if you do not replace the pipe, a system flush and clean would very much be needed.
