The living room in our flat gets cold in winter. We have 2 old style radiators. Are newer radiators much more effective, or should I really be looking at bigger radiators?
Older radiators if not flushed can sometimes be inefficient. You can usually tell if the bottom of the radiator is cold and the top is hot. It simply has collected a deposit of rust and dirt within the system over several years. Our approach when fitting a new boiler for every customer is to chemical flush their existing radiators and pipework, then place an inhibitor in the system to help stop this happening again, and by adding a Magna filter to collect any debris going around the system. Once done even old radiators can provide much more heat.
The room needs to be measured to find the heat loss calculation. This would then indicate what size radiator needs to be fitted, in most cases the new modern rads are smaller in size as they are a lot more efficient.
new style radiator with 'FINS' give a lot more output than old style panel radiators, also down to boiler
Look at your ones are they single or Dubble if they are single and old they may be blocked or full of air you need to touch it when the boiler at maximum tempurture. the boiler could have a sensor that not letting it reach tempurture du to it being old needs testing. The boiler main heat exchange could be blocked needs flushing your radiators are the wrong size for the room. Room stat could be faulty. All need to be tested really. I hope this information helped.
Yes, you need to buy new one
newer radiators are efficient also the problem with your radiators maybe due to them been air locked or sludge in the system which would mean a system flush. Craig CLW plumbing. Pontefract
Yes a lot more effective as they have heat transfer panels
Answer yes new rads are more efficent but yes you may need larger ones ? contact us if you are reasonably near we give free quotes.
Call a heating engineer use the gas safe register, pay him and he will resolve for you all your problems, the system is not adequate for the space to heat, it has been done by a DIY before, heating engineers will put things right, expect to pay or the service
yes new radiators are more effective in dissipating the heat and are more cost effective

Radiators are installed by their size after calculating the area there needed to be. Old radiator work's well if it's still in good condition which can be check by a competant person.
