We have had a quote to replace our corner shower and tile the wall behind for two walls with approx area of 90 x 200cm each . We have ended up buying metro subway tiles which is going to make it a longer job. We have been quoted an additional 150 pounds because of the size of the tiles - does this seem reasonable given the original quote already included all the prep, grouting and tiling but the assumption being it would be much bigger tiles and therefore quicker job?
Thanks
i would say tile sizes and types i.e. marble or ceramic make a difference to cost.
yes it is reasonable , it may take longer to cut as they could have a heaver
construction and therefore increase the overall cost.
hey tiling is tilling the only time i ask for more money is if the tiles are very expensive or need special blade for the cutter with the exception of the whole area being mosaic unless the extra is to cover adhesive and grout
Most tiler would quote a price based on meter fitted, size of tile not realy an issue, 4 sq meters is 4 sq meters
doesn't matter on size of tiles, but if they are more difficult to lay then yes it will cost more bigger doesn't mean quicker,
150.00 pounds is a good price.
On a scale of small being mosaic and large been 600 x 600 prices can range anything from £40 to £65 a smtr.
Me personally I would always charge same be it large or small tiles.
Working on per sq meter yours is around 4 sqm
Also depending on price is any preparation work needed prior to tiling.
Using much smaller tiles will make the job take longer. Maybe an extra day on top in this case so I think £150 extra is a fair price, unless it was mentioned that you would be using these tiles before they quoted. In this case then they should have allowed for this.
Hello,
Unfortunately price for tiling by small tiles especially in bathroom is slightly bigger. In bigger ares small tiles need more preparation wall work and tiling take longer as well.
Should be not affected price in splash back in the kitchen.

I think its a little steep could of maybe said its a bit more and gone half way on that
everything depends on whether the walls are appropriately simple sometimes large plate is not always easier to solve. you have to find a compromise and determine the final price with the contractor. Regards
It's mainly a time increase to complete the job so it could run over into another day.
If i am quoting on tiling i whant to know what the tiles are made of, there size, and any border or trim.if thay porcalane or marble the price is going to be 2 to 3 times moor.
