We wouldn't recommend this as it will discolour to a yellow colour within months .
you can get high sheen emulsion that will look so much better

Most decorators will leave the tape on until all the coats are finished and once the second coat is dry then it's safe to remove .

Sounds like the plaster has been laid on thin or a watered down paint has been used it's very rare if kitchen paint is used that this will happen

I think it all comes down to the roller quality and the coverage of the roller should you spend a little more on a bigger roller you may see less lines and marks where the roller has been .
