History:

With a brother who has owned his own painting company since I can remember. And his father owning it before him. Painting a decorating was a part of my life from a very early age.
?
Starting my decorating career in 2012 I attended Oldham college on a city and guild/nvq level 2 apprenticeship which lasted two years. Out of the 30 candidates that started and only 10 that completed. Five, including me, where then selected for the opportunity to achieve a level 3 city and guilds/NVQ. Which I passed with distinction grade.

Domestic works:
Domestic work should always be a strong skill in any decorator’s arsenal. For me my domestic knowledge is a ongoing journey. With each job having its own challenges, and each client having its own expectations. My 5th to 7th year,in my chosen trade. Was spent working for a company that only dealt with domestic clients. Although I was already familiar with this type of works. My time at “new dec” sharpened my skills and quality. Not only in the painting side of my trade but the decorating side as well. Most of my time there was spent decorating houses in places like Cheshire, Sandbanks and York. It was during this time I built my reputation as a decorator who was able to leave a job with the finish the high end clients expected.

Commercial works:
Although there has always been a domestic aspect in my career. The majority of the time I have served has been as a commercial decorator. In my early years this experience came from working for shopfitting outfits. This was for my brother’s company. Working for clients around the country, Gaining the knowledge needed to complete jobs to the right standard in a short period of time. As well as building a work ethic that allowed me to work long hours at “unsociable times.” The next chapter of my career came I turned 18 due to now having a small child. Working away every week was no longer viable for a year or two. I left my brothers company and started working for a friend as a sole trader. Working alongside companies such as P&L construction and BOYS. Again, this was mainly commercial works such as new builds, shops, offices ect. After the second year the company I worked for decided to go down a different path taking lots of work away from home. Which at the time I wasn’t ready for again yet. Upon leaving my friends company I worked as a sole trader in the commercial industry for the next 4 years. As a sub-contractor for painting companies, I mainly worked on “price” work as I found I was good at turning out a high quality of work in a relatively short period of time from my shop fitting days. I worked in place such as media city. Manchester center and Leeds center. Completing either shops or apartment buildings.

Industrial works
Although the start of my career never really delved into industrial works. It was always something that caught my attention. As it involved a lot of spraying. On my third year after completing my level 3 I was working for a company who dealt mainly with commercial work but on occasion took on some form of industrial work which I asked to lead. After years of doing the odd industrial job, I decided that it was the works I wanted to pursue and gain more experience in. I left the company that I was at and in my early twenties joined HARRISONS ICS. I spent the first few years at HARRISONS learning and perfecting my skills as a industrial painter before after my fourth year taking on my apprentice and beginning to run my own jobs. During my time at HARRISONS, I completed hundreds of industrial units from large to small. Across the country and even in different countries. I found I had a naturally ability to run large jobs and not be over come by the sheer amount of work. My time at HARRISONS was probably the best to date in career. But as all things must it came to end as my end goal all along had always been to one day start my own company. And in early 2022 that is what I did by founding Decadent Designs

Sounds like water is getting behind it , more than likely your gutters need a clean out , if i was to guess i’d say it’s probably around the soil stack or down pipe and then moving across ,

could though be down to poor product selection

paint wise , wait till substrate fully dry … not just the surface . sand off , peel stop , fill , re paint in a pliolite or other oil based product which will be more durable.

use a profession , we give guarantees on all our works. if it does fail while under guarantee we will rectify. which normally means contacting the paint manufacturer as it’s the product that has failed. as we use dulux or crown our paints also come with guarantees meaning as long as you can show correct method of application they are liable.

hope this helps

When using tapes the first and most crucial part is selecting the right tape. is the trim and coving already painted ? and if so has it only just been done? i ask because if you have used oil based products or even water base gloss’s they need to be allowed to fully dry before they are masked off , not just touch dry.

i think the orange frog tape is for freshly painted trim … it will tack to the surface better than say the wall one. it’s also designed not to pull the coating underneath off when removed .

if you want to get really crisp straight lines i would recommend after masking coating the top edge in the product used on what your masking over .

once dry coat your wall allow to dry and re coat , as long as you have done it within a reasonable time it won’t effect the finish when removed , i wouldn’t remove while fully wet .i normally remove after it’s dry anyways this prevent paint splatters from wet tape hitting walls , any paint that has built up where masking line is running , and also any flakey paint on tape sticking to wet wall .

when removing pull nice and slow at a 90 degree angle
