We live in a 3 bed detached house and need a new boiler. Currently conventional with hot water tank upstairs. I know the advantages of a combi, but are there any disadvantages?
The disadvantages are cheap makes on the market , because of the complexity of the unit they are more prone to breakdown but only slightly. The main disadvantage can be hot water delivery to the taps. Stick to a leading brand we offer all these many come with up to 10 years warranty or guarantee but be careful and worth spending a bit more money to get a better KW output but this is covered by your cold mains pressure to house we are experts 40 years industry experience we offer free estimates and very sound advice
Main disadvantage is when watermain is switched off the domestic water supply is also stopped from the boiler.
disadvantages of a combi boiler, no I/ heater for hot water back up, can only supply one hot water outlet at once, often slower to fill say a bath, size of combi that is output in KW's depends on what mains cold water pressure you have into house this must be checked by competent person, parts often more expensive to replace and more of them,i can provide expert advice quality installations and a 10 year warranty on the new boiler for parts and labour and could offer finance for purchase if needed.
Bath takes a long time to run, thats about it
Not designed for larger house with multiple bathrooms
in my a pinyon i dont think there is any disadvantages of a combi boiler

There is always a disadvantage to anything that has advantage. But haven't said that it is small which is mainly seconds delay getting hot water.
