It is fine to use as its purpose is a joint filler which is used for dry lining if used correctly and taped should not crack
I would gun some colour appropriate silicone around to waterproof and finish
I would use something more like thistle bond it the green stuff with grit in or the tiling equivalent as provides better key and sealing properties i find just paint on day before you start but i would do more research on background surface first to avoid any bad reactions
I would strip back and render it with a decent integral waterproofer as should stop any damp coming back through internally
I always use dulux once moves well and good opacity
