I would secure them together. alternatively dig out the ground 50 deeper than pallets fill this with conrete and put in pallets. this will secure them together and stop any movement if its a base for some sort of structure???
I and most people get the homeowner to do the once over before i even attempt to ask for payment. in future if they dont ask then make sure. you check off your own back before handing over cash.
Depends if you want something that also looks good or just to do the job. could make some mdf brackets woth some sort of curvature??

Ultimately depends on the size of window. labour time should be the same. taking out a window can a be very straight forward job. out and in. but can also open up problems. which take time to get round . one window shouldnt take more than a shift in the worst of scenarios.
