Noisy floorboards

Noisy floorboards upstairs. I have noticed the floorboards have become noisy when walking on them and some are lifting, even make cracking noises when not walking on them. What trade do i need to check if anything is going on underneath? Do i need a joiner or a builder?

Either would probably be able to detect the issues.
Cafully roll back carpet and Underlay. This should show lose screws or nails, these may need taking out completely and new screws put in

Hello my name Callum from CJ handyman services I hope you Can fine this useful

You just need a joiner to come out and have a look you wouldn’t know what the problem is till you lifted the carpet, laminate flooring whatever is down to see what the condition of the floorboards are like if there has been water damage before the wood might have rotated Hanse why it might be creaky and bouncy sometimes or it might just not be fastened down to your joices you wouldn’t know till you had a look hope this is helpful
Thank you CJ handyman services

Noisy floor boards occur due joist movement ( slight bounce)causing the floor fixings to become loose and floor boards to rub on against the fixings over time. Also if the timber has expanded due temperatures or rubbing against walls or sub work.
A quick fix is bang down fixings if heads are showing. Otherwise lifting small section at time, checking for expansion and piping then screwing flooring back to joists. A builder or floor joiner should know this. Never just add screw or pin without lifting boards first.

You will need a joiner. Don't worry this is very common problem. Just make sure who ever screws them back down, that they don't hit wires or water pipes.

I'd recommend a carpenter/ joiner for the job.

Floorbaords take a lot of wear and tear over the years. They need lifting and refixing. With glue and a mechanical fixing. That will stop any movement causing squeaking and cracking

Hi

Floorboards expand and move constantly; the creaks are usually just the bords rubbing nothing structural at all. all you need to do is screw the boards down (watching out for pipes) and cut any boards that are touching. wood will always move and in older houses the timbers had longer to warp and twist and bow in the cold and heat. the damp and the dry. the boards just need a bit of care from a carpenter or a capable handy man. I can almost guarantee its nothing to worry about.

I would be going with a joiner personally as they should be able to check, it also can depend on age of property and environmental factors.
