I have personally been in the roofing/building trade for over 20 years. My business now delivers the full envelope of the building trade so we do everything from start to finish and don't have to rely on sub contractors.

Utter rubbish, he should have had the part he needed or went off to get it there and then.... that's known as padding the job out
That is all down to water pressure
Replace the vinyl as it's cheap to buy,use the original as a template
