They could be using the incorrect bar as, any carpet regardless of underlay should fit into the suitable door bar. hence why they’re created
there is absolutely no reason, it shouldn’t fit unless carpet has been cut short and incorrectly

I would suggest, double sided rug tape
will help keep edges down and doesn’t damage the floor underneath

If done correctly, there will be a very faint line. but unfortunately impossible to hide 100%
especially since current carpet is used and the piece will be new. so you will notice shade difference. even if it’s slight

The underlay may have been wet or if bad quality hence the smell
