Bonding in tiles.

Neighbour’s have just had a new roof and their roofer has bonded in the original very old tiles from when these houses were constructed 1950-60’s into my 5-6 year old roof. The old tiles have also been painted previously. They have used a bonding gutter in between but have put old tiles every other tile going down my roof front and back. Should the roofer not have found similar new tiles like mine and used them? Rather than the old painted tiles which were obviously at the end of their service life which is obviously why the neighbour was changing their roof.

Yes they should have sourced tiles the same as your ones but if you have had your roof done you should have already had a bonding gutter installed on the wall head to separate the roofs

To answer your question , yes the neighbours have more than likely got a re-roof for it to last over the cost of their budget perhaps so the roofer has only done his job but then there I have said it the point is for it to last a long time up to at least up to 50+60 years but for new tiles it’s also a cost !

Yes they should’ve used new tiles as old tiles crack and make leaks very easy and are more likely to slide off the roof, hope to hear back from you thank you Dan.

It's very common to do this however the bond is normally halfway between houses so if he's come over to far to your side this is something I would definitely take up with them

Shouldn’t really need the tiles on top as it’s only more weight to that area. If fitted correctly the bonding gutter was enough to make sure it’s a watertight. But to answer your question I believe yes he should of used new tiles if he were to.

Roofs have a lifespan that typically ranges from 20 to 30 years, but can vary depending on the material. If your roof is approaching or past its expected lifespan, this is an excellent sign that you can have it inspected for replacement or repair.

Hi,

Yes you are correct. For a new roof to be installed all tile work should be done using the same tiles all over the roof. Seeing as your roof joins to the neighbours this should have been done using the new tiles as this would have made it more aesthetically pleasing to both you and the neighbour.

Hope this helps.

Jae.
