Hi I've painted my downstairs toilet on one wall the paint cracks and peels off right down to showing the plastered wall only in about 3 spots the rest off the wall is fine can I just peel off paint rub down and then just wallpaper the wall its driving me mad please help
Hi there, it seems like the bare plaster hasn't been sized (sealed). You should scrape and sand any loose paint, then use 2 seal coats, watered down emulsion can be used or builders PVA, Then 2 normal tops coats. Never paint or wallpaper on bare plaster that hasn't been sealed properly. Paint will peel and the paper will be extremely hard to remove
First of all I would try to identify what the crack is and how to fix this- the crack must be there for a reason. It may be that the wall needs to be replastered before wall papering or painting the wall.
Once I have investigated what the cracks are-eg whether subsidence or not, will determine whether to just fill the cracks then wall paper, or whether to another professional would need to correct the subsidence and then once completed, replaster and paint/wall paper.

rub down and paper should be fine or try an oil based paint (undercoat/gloss)on the area first to see if peeling persists
It is best to primer seal the wall before papering it first.
Pva glue or a water seal paint
if you line the wall with 17oo lining paper horizontally the wall paper as normal.
but past the wall and paper
Good afternoon
Please post the job and photo of the wall.
But if its peeling off mens it can be wet.
If you apply wallpaper will be worst as wallpaper will come off also.
First need fix the problem. Then paint or wallpaper
Stabilise first
Then primer seal the wall before painting
Rub down this area until all edges are sound. Then apply a thinned coat of pva to seal affected areas. allow to dry, fill the areas as these will be lower than finished areas, rub down and re paint with your chosen finished colour.
Wallpaper cannot be hung over large holes or significantly damaged areas of drywall. ... Significantly damaged drywall, or drywall that has been water damaged, will need to be replaced prior to hanging wallpaper.
This sounds like a damp issue or somesort of issue with these spots, before going any further investigation is needed then a sealing/primer or stain blocker applied, left to dry then the wall needs preparation filling, sizing, and needs to definitely not contain any moisture or this will just peel the paper off overnight
It would be best to fill the areas that have cracked then sand and then you should be good to paper the walls
