Is there a recommended time of year to cut back the hedge so that you get the benefit for the longest period of time?
Escallonia hedges. Escallonia can be trimmed in May and again in late August if you want a formal hedge without flowers. For an informal, flowering hedge, cut after flowering in June. Hard prune in the spring to reduce its size.
Winter or spring is ideally the best time to cut back and trim hedges.
Beech and hornbeam hedges can be pruned in August. They grow rapidly in the early part of the year, but need to grow a little after cutting to make sure there are no bare patches through the winter. If the hedges have grown too large, cut back hard in mid-winter, avoiding very cold spells.
Either end of the season. So October, November depending on weather. Or before the new season Feb, March depending on weather
hi I have hedge cutting job to do Monday wich I do twice a year for one of my regular customers I already did it in the spring April this year now i do it again next monday it has really grown so there is not a recommended time really if the customer is happy then I'm happy to carry out the work
Its usually best to trim hedge during late spring, autumn or winter trying to avoid trimming in really hot weather & frosty days. We would recommend that you avoid hedge trimming during summer as between March & August is nesting season, under the Wildlife & Countryside Act its against the law to disturb any nesting bird.
They grow quicker in spring and summer grow slower in the winter
