To paint over gloss with emulsion paint, you will have to use a super grip primer to prepare the surface. if you are painting over a glossy surface with another coat of gloss, satin or eggshell paint, you can lightly sand and clean the surface and paint it without having to use a primer.
if your sealant or silicone has gone yellow or is in the process of going yellow, don't worry. it is a common occurrence. your sealant is likely going yellow because of exposure to uv radiation
Due to the porous surface, going without primer will ensure that the spackle spots appear as a dull spot on the surface of the wall

this is one of the cheaper options and gives a smooth finish but it's not appropriate for older buildings with solid (non-cavity) walls. it's prone to cracking, so needs to be kept in impeccable condition. it also requires repainting every few years.
