Have you tried spray glue at all ?

It's a well used area so a hard wearing carpet would be better .
Carpet not tucking under door bar

Decorate or carpet first?
The preference is up to you but leave a few day after decorating before fitting carpet
Can I patch two pieces of short pile carpet together?
You can join 2 pieces of carpet together either spray join or seaming iron
