What to do with wood chip wall papered ceiling? Replace it?

Hello! May I please have some advice? We have a 3 bedroom flat which is entirely covered by woodchip wall paper (including the ceiling) We’re in the process of removing it all but I’m not sure which way is the best/wise for the ceilings. If I take the wall paper off, the ceiling won’t be perfectly clean and it’ll need professionals to fix. Will I be better off just replacing all the ceiling boards and re-plastering? If so should we take the ceilings down ourselves to make the cost lower? If possible I don’t want to over-board because some areas of the ceiling are not in great condition. I am spending time to research and get information to fix this flat in the best possible way with reasonable cost. We’re trying to do ‘no skill required’ labouring jobs before we ask quotations and start renovation. Thank you very much for reading and I would appreciate your advice. Kind regards, H

If you have wood chip on ceiling most off the time it's to hide things ..
My advice would be to remove old ceiling and apply the correct plaster board colour to the room you have

Hi, usually this would just be a case of stripping the paper from the ceiling, taping any cracks, PVA’ing & then skimming.

Hope this helps.

Hi,you can over tack the ceiling with plasterboard once you locate the joists above a lot easier quicker and a lot less mess.Scimming new board is always easier and it’s a better finish

The best way is to renew everything, but the cost is going to be equivalent for what you reqest, if you trying to come to a cheap renovation you could replace the most vulnerable place and after just to plaster it all and paint, some people is doing the renovation by part, one time a room or first floor, later kitchen and the rest. I thing you should decide for yourself what you want, and how you want to be done
