Cost of changing front garden to off road parking space?

Moved to a house on double yellow lines, it has a small front garden with a wall at the front and plant beds a tree few plants etc, this would be big enough for off road space for my car as neighbours have the same space and have off road parking. No idea how much would cost or work involved and if i needed council permission.thanks

Permission is needed from council if drop kerb is needed
Then remove or cut out section of wall for car to drive through
Dig out front garden to a depth of 250mm
Put a weed membrane down
150mm Type 1stone in compact to a solid finish
Leaving 100mm for your recommended finish layer whether its tarmac or blocks etc

Only thing your need from the council is permission for the kerb to be dropped outside your home which would have a cost too it also the job it’self there is not a lot of work involved all depending of the size of the garden

We will need council permission. If they grant this then we will replace with a dropped kerb. I cannot give an exact estimate of figure, unless I physically see the job. Only then I can work out how much work will be involved and what can be done exactly.

You would need council permission to remove the kerb and replace it with a dropped one, but am unsure of the permissions needed to build a driveway.

I’d personally approach the council and seek permission for the project. Within the application I’d ask for the the kerbs to be dropped and use an approved contractor for this. The work also need a structural engineer to design walls if needed. The work is quite straightforward and would have to be costed correctly.

Council permission is a must, as they are the ones to drop the curve on the foot path.

Cost of standard drives, looking at 6000GBP give or take, plus demo of the wall and make good.

Cost will vary depending on what sort of driveway you would like. Full block paved, tarmac, or gravel. The cost between tarmac and paving is very similar, gravel is the cheapest option. Only council approval you would need is if you wanted to drop the kerb.

You won't be needing council permission if the house is owned only if a dropped curb is needed and depending on the size of the area the cost would be different and what materials you are planning on putting down

Hi because you have the yellow lines out side of you property
You will have to check with the local council
They may not drop the kerb
The average cost of a new driveway in block paving is around a 100 pound per square meter depending on size plus drainage is very important you may need a soakaway

You would need council permission to drop / lower your kerb edging. If your neighbour has this, this usually sets precedent for you. There is a fee for this application, you can apply for this including pricing on your district council portal. The council will carry out this works from road edge up to your demise.
Double yellows are good as this means nobody will park across your drive.
You will need to install an acco trench drain across the front of your drive to ensure no surface water will flow out of your property and onto the side walk.
Shingle should also be kept min 5 meters away from road edges to avoid stones being carried from the driveway into the road. Property will need to be viewed or pics seen to estimate accurately.
All the best.

Hi all you would be able to turn your driveway into off road parking but depends on the area being measure depending price as some gardens are bigger than others. Also you would only need to contact the council if you needed a dropped curb to gain access to your driveway’s.

Well depending on the type of drive way and materials you want and layout of your garden you could be anywhere from £2,500 - £15,000 and unfortunately anyone wanting to replace or install a driveway in a front garden needs to apply for planning permission UNLESS the material is permeable or the materials are laid so rainwater discharges onto a lawn or flower bed for natural drainage.

First of all you would have to apply to the council for permission to create a driveway as you would need drop kerbs and they would have to remove the double yellow lines. Once the grant permission that is where you would start retrieving different quotes for the work to be carried out.

Hello,
You would need to notify the council and ask for a drop curb to be put in and then have the wall and trees removed, this is all very doable but would need prior approval from the council.
I would estimate the whole job to take a week to 10 days from start or completion.
Many thanks

Not a very expensive job Labour wise, we have done it for 1200-2000, if there’s pavement you will need to contact local authorities to drop the curb etc! All achievable but definitely contact council

If you own the property you shouldn’t need permission to put the driveway in but you’d need permission if you need a dropped kerb which would be expensive the price would roughly be broken down into 3stages first would be preparation of the area second is the tarmac concrete etc the third would be the dropped kerb which would be done by a council approved contractor
