Cost of repairing pull cord switch?

The pull cord switch for our Mira electric shower has stopped working meaning no power to.shower unit. There are no tripped switches in the consumer unit & all other power switches for shower are on. The pull cord simply will not click the shower on. Cord is solely for the shower unit & all other bathroom electrics are fine. Any ideas on the issue & rough costs to repair please?

Investigation would be required to check for faulty connection, the electrical shower could be faulty, we would need to check the amp, check the circuit breaker and voltage and wire connections.

If a replacement is needed, the rough cost could be around £100 to £150.

By the sounds of the description it’s the isolator to the shower.

It would cost around £75 for an electrician to come out and replace

Roughly what I would personally expect to pay to have a shower pull cord replaced is the cost of the pull switch itself plus £30 but some electricians may charge more and some may charge less. Prices will vary dependant on a tradesman’s travel distance and make of pull switch used etc.

Hi there,

The problem could be anything from a loose connection in the switch or even a faulty switch, not easy to tell without taking a look of course. I'd recommend having the switch changed, the materials should cost between £8-£15 and I'd estimate the labour and callout to cost about £40. In total I'd say for £50-£60 you could have your problem solved but that's specifically if the actual switch is faulty, the deeper the issue the more expensive it would be to fix unfortunately.

Hope this helps a little.

Thanks and good luck.

the only option to repair it is to replace it or move the wiring to the wall in the form of a switch - this is more useful.
Coming back to the full price, the exchange fee is 50 pounds

Pjg electrical

Hi there , it’s Paul from pjg electrical there are a number of reasons why this may have occurred . First thing the size of the cable has to be adequate for the shower that has been installed . The switch might possibly have burnt out because of an overload on the cables . An insulation resistance test would have to be done on the cable assuming the cable size and circuit breaker are adequate enough , then the pullcord switch would need changed over as the mechanism in the switch may not be working . Then a check would be done to the shower unit to make sure the shower has 240 volts and the water is also flowing from the shower head .supply and fit of a new pullcord should be no more than £90 .
